At Leb Chiropractic we try to keep the costs as low as possible, which is why you have to pay directly after the appointments to save costs by not engaging external clearing houses.

We are a private practice and bill on the fee regulation for non-medical practitioners (Heilpraktiker Gebührenverordnung). If your German health insurance company reimburses non-medical practitioner benefits, you usually can reclaim your money. Often American health insurances include chiropractic care in their policies.

Depending on how full our schedule is the waiting time can differ. You might get an appointment quickly, but often waiting times of up to 6 weeks are possible. As a matter of principle, appointments should not be arranged by e-mail, but by telephone, as it is easier and faster to find a suitable appointment for you and, if necessary, to consult directly with a chiropractor.

This question can not be answered on a general basis. Only after a thorough examination can your chiropractor estimate what kind of treatment plan is necessary for you. Points to consider are pre-existing conditions, your lifestyle, your job, sports activities, your goals and what you want to achieve with chiropractic care. We emphasize not only short-term relief, but long-term improvement.

Since in our clinic only joints that do require treatment are treated, they will not become too lax . Of course, when healthy joints are treated unnecessarily, they can get injured. Due to the detailed study and ongoing further education, the chiropractors in our practice know when a joint needs help and when not.

It is not uncommon for the adjustments to cause muscle soreness and fatigue, which is a sign that the body is changing and starting the healing process.

Sometimes the symptoms worsen for a short time or old complaints might reappear. This is not alarming , but part of the process. Most of these symptoms disappear within a few days.

In rare cases, the body reacts with nausea, diarrhea or fever; in even rarer cases you might feel sad, listless or aggressive. In these cases, the body "detoxifies" physically or emotionally, which can also be part of the healing process.

There are rare cases in which the walls of an artery supplying the brain separates (dissection of the vertebral artery), which in the terminal stage can lead to a stroke. These patients seek out a doctor or chiropractor because of the headache that arises in the disease process. Since this phenomenon is of high importance in the study of a chiropractor, your chiropractor will always ask for possible risk factors and perform certain tests to take the appropriate action in case of suspicion of this serious problem.

There are some reports that manipulation caused a stroke. In these reports, the level of education of the treating persons is hardly differentiated. Thus chiropractors, “Chiropraktiker”, “Chirotherapeuten” (this distinction is unknown in English and all are falsely referred to as "chiropractors"), orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists and "other therapists" (sometimes even martial artists) are lumped together. Pay attention to the names Edzard Ernst and Simon Singh. (1)

Overall, the risk of getting a stroke from a treatment by your chiropractor is extremely small (2) and chiropractic adjustment does not seem to worsen the existing problem (4).

Unfortunately, there are always those cases that show no risk factors and where the tests are unremarkable. These people have then pulled the hard line that the stroke will happen no matter what. Whether they consult a doctor or chiropractor (3).

This is why it is so important that your chiropractor has a sound education, which gives you a thorough initial consultation and an exam in depth.

There are some absolute contraindications (5). During the initial interview, your chiropractor will make a detailed history (anamnesis) to see if you have any of these. If a not yet known contraindication is suspected, your chiropractor will send you for further diagnostic tests or refer you to the appropriate doctor.

There are cases in which the diseased area should not be treated under any circumstances (for example metastases in a vertebra, as there is a risk of fracturing), anyhow it might help you if the surrounding areas are corrected.

In each case, we decide individually what is possible and what is not. At Leb Chiropractic! your safety is our paramount aim.

The study of chiropractic is a full-time study of 5-6 years at an accredited university (currently there are none in Germany) and includes the following subjects (by the example of the University of Glamorgan from the year 2008).

The World Health Organization WHO stipulates a minimum of 4200 hours. This number of hours is regularly exceeded at all accredited universities (e.g., Glamorgan 2008: 5360 hours).

WHO Guidelines

Chiropractors have completed an intensive chiropractic course of studies (5-6 years at the university, including one year of practice at the University Hospital), in line with both the European Union's unified standards and the World Health Organization (WHO) international guidelines (7). In addition, a chiropractor has in-depth knowledge in general medicine, neurology and radiology (in many other countries, chiropractors are allowed to take x-rays), so that they are also able to read and interpret radiological images. Chiropractors must prove during their year of practice that they have the knowledge and the dexterity to be able to independently diagnose and treat patients.

Chiropraktiker are a kind of naturopaths who have attended chiropractic courses. Since there are no legal quality standards in Germany, the quality span can vary very much. The Paracelsus School only allocates 45 hours for chiropractic! (6)

Chirotherapeuten are medical doctors who have completed additional training (320 hours) in the field of chiropractic. They are allowed to use Chirotherapie or Manuelle Therapie as an adjunct. (8)

Since there is still no professional law for chiropractors in Germany, they are obliged to work under the Heilpraktiker-Law, although there are no regulations on training requirements, duration or content of Heilpraktiker-education in relation to the later practiced technique. The Heilpraktiker-Law merely defines that whoever wishes to practice any kind of healing methode without being summoned as a doctor, requires a permit.

Both osteopaths and chiropractors assume that the body has the capacity to heal itself. Although some theories and techniques of both disciplines overlap, the approaches are different. Depending on which technique is used in chiropractic or osteopathy, it may appear and feel very similar or very different for the layman.

By and large, one can perhaps say that osteopathy deals primarily with the internal organs. Parietal osteopathy also deals with disorders of the musculo-skeletal system.

Chiropractic deals primarily with the nervous system. When the structures supplied by the nervous system (muscles, joints, and organs) do not respond, chiropractors also correct disorders in these by a direct approach.

As with chiropractic, osteopathy is not well regulated in Germany. Here, too, the differences in quality can be enormous. However, osteopathy with its own degree program in Germany and greater recognition is already a few steps further in the process of legal recognition.

We at Leb Chiropractic! do not see osteopaths as competitors; we are even collaborating with some local osteopaths.

Depending on how well your body can maintain the adjustment and remain stable (which often depends on the level of physical activity, occupation, environment and lifestyle), we see our clients at intervals of 4 weeks to 3 months. The goal is to maintain the results achieved in the intensive phase and correct new subluxations as quickly as possible before they can produce symptoms.

The adjustments give neurological stimuli that help the body to stabilize. In some cases, especially with a sedentary occupation, you must help to keep the body stable. We will give you exercise when your body is ready to take them on, so you can actively participate.

In addition, we work closely with a personal trainer (link). He offers a back school for our clients. (Link) If you wish, we will consult it in advance to give you the best results.

The chiropractic evening is designed for our customers and their family and friends. If you are not yet a customer and would like to get to know our clinic you are also welcome.

We want to give you an understanding of what causes subluxations, how to identify and avoid your personal triggers.

The more you know, the more you can do for yourself and the fewer adjustments you will need.

I'm so stressed that my body subluxates again and again. What can I do?

In acute periods of stress, it is advisable to be adjusted more frequently, until the stress is over. Chiropractic can help you to get through this phase as unscathed as possible.

In cases of ongoing stress, that you is outside your control and the end of which is unpredictable, we work with other professions (link) that can help you cope better with this stress.

We want to help you gain sustainable results and not just to treat the symptoms.

Everyone can be treated. Whether newborn, adolescent or elderly; whether for the prevention or treatment of symptoms; sensitive or rather robust person; whether as a primary care or as a co-management of other diseases; we can adapt to you and your family.

It is useful for everyone to have a fully functioning nervous system.

If you are one of the few exceptions that cannot be adjusted (Link s.o When may not be adjusted?), we will refer you to the appropriate specialist.

Adjustments can be done immediately after birth. In the hands of a studied chiropractor even the smallest ones are safe. There are special techniques for each age group. Our chiropractors have completed advanced training in the field of pediatrics.

Most clients come to us with complaints of the musculoskeletal system, for example:

This differs from person to person. Depending on when the pain started, what co-morbidities you have, what lifestyle you are leading, and how well your body responds to chiropractic, results can be quick or take a few weeks to months. As with any type of treatment, no one can promise success. It is important for us to always involve you closely in the recovery process so that you achieve the best results.
